Since people keep QQing about this in the comments, I feel the need to clarify a typo. I forgot to put the line above .999 to indicate that it should be repeating.
The correct formula is as follows:
1/3=.333 repeating
1/3 * 3/1 = 3/3 = 1/1 = 1
.333 repeating * 3 = .999 repeating
.999 repeating = 1
