Now its turn for UP board the shed the marking system and to adopt the grading one.Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Siksha Parishad (UP Board) is set to introduce grading system — a concept of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) — in its Board examinations. Finally the nap of UP board is broken and they have started the process for the upgradation of the prevalent educational system of the state or rather one should say that they are going to change from scratch. Right now board award marks to the pupils and also there is a provision of placing these marks under the corresponding division. These are the step taken after keeping in view the number suicides committed by the students in the recent years. According to the committee members, the marking system was responsible for the increasing number of suicide cases and growing stress among students. The change will not take place only in the system of awarding the marks rather than the changes will take place in the syllabus also. It is also said that when the system becomes operational, students will be given grades instead of marks and percentage. “A detailed report regarding the benefits of grading system and changes in syllabus according to the CBSE and Indian Council of Secondary Education (ICSE) is being prepared,” said a Board official. A high-level committee under Rajya Siksha Yojana Samiti has been entrusted with the task, he added.

The committee comprises former CBSE chairman Ashok Ganguli, Director of State Council for Educational Research and Training Achala Khanna, Board Director K M Tripathi, Secretary Prabha Tripathi and a few additional secretaries. So far, three meetings have been held in this connection. The meetings have discussed upgradation of the syllabus, introduction of the grading system and change in the evaluation pattern of answer sheets.

The changes in the syllabus will be done after keeping in mind the latest update in the particular field or the subject to give the students a better exposure through the texts. This is a good initiative taken by the board to really make the student's career bright by developing the industry based skills and also imparting them with some practical knowledge in the relevant field.

Apart from the pros there are some cons too of this grading system as it will increase the competition among the students of the same band or grade because there will be a rise in the number of students on platform or grade unlike the marks system where the number of students getting same marks will be very less in comparison.
