The CBSE board was formally known as Board of High School and Intermediate Education, Rajputana which was established in 1929. In 1952 he constitution of the Board was amended wherein its jurisdiction was extended to part-C and Part-D territories and the Board was given its present name Central Board of Secondary Education and in 1962 the final reconstitution of the Board took place.
Apart from conduction the examinations, the prime focus of the CBSE Board is on innovations in teaching-learning methodologies by devising students friendly and students centered paradigms, reforms in Examinations and evaluation practices, skill learning by adding job-oriented and job-linked inputs and regularly updating the pedagogical skills of the teachers and administrators by conducting in service training programmes, workshops etc. There are around 897 Kendriya Vidyalayas, 1761 Government Schools, 5827 Independent Schools, 480 Jawahar Novodaya Vidyalayas and 14 Central Tibetean Schools affiliated to CBSE Board.
The examination for the year 2009 of the Class X started from Monday,02nd March and ended on Monday,02nd March. CBSE examinations for 2009 of class XII started on Monday,02nd March and ended on Thursday,02nd April.The result declaration for CBSE X class took place on 29th May, 2009 while the Class XII results were Announced on 22nd May, 2009.
